YOUTH
INVITATION PROGRAM
(FRIENDSHIP PROGRAMME
FOR THE 21ST CENTURY)
"The Youth Invitation Program"
is implemented by JICA as a part of a technical cooperation scheme
for developing countries. Under this programme, young people who will
shoulder the task of future nation-building are invited to Japan for
four weeks in different groups categorized by their specialized fields.
The purpose of this Programme is to provide the young participants
with opportunities to study their respective fields. It is also meant
to deepen mutual understanding through broad exchanges with Japanese
people, including their host family members so that the participants
will be able to establish friendly relationships based upon mutual
trust.
At first, only six ASEAN countries participated.
Our network of friendship, however, has greatly expanded to include
approximately 120 countries and territories. Since the Programme started
in 1984, more than 20,000 young people have visited Japan. Today,
1,600 people from more than 100 countries around the world visit Japan
each year.
