A simple extractive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of pantoprazole in both pure and pharmaceutical dosage forms. The method is based on the formation of ion pair complexes of the drug with two acid dyes namely bromocresol green and bromophenol blue in acidic buffer solution followed by their extraction in organic solvent (chloroform). The absorbance of the organic layer was measured at their respective wavelength of maximum absorbance against the corresponding reagent blank. The method has been statistically evaluated and is found to be precise and accurate
